Method/Apparatus/Procedure:

The synthetic method was used. Observations were made after vigorous shaking in glass-stoppered tubes (15 mL capacity) immersed in water baths in large Dewar flasks. Temperature was adjusted by adding small amounts of cooler or warmer water. Filling started with 5 mL of one reagent followed by small additions of the other two, usually alternately, to maintain a trace of lower or upper layer, until the composition of a plait point was reached or the tube was full (see Tables 1 and 2).

Source and Purity of Materials:

(1) Eastman Kodak Co., distilled with 30 cm column with reflux; b. p. = (114 to 115)°C; m. p. = -78°C; n(20°C,D) = 1.3920, p(20°C) = 1046.9 g L-1.
(2) Purified by crystallization; m. p. = -13.3°C; n(20°C,D) = 1.4315, p(25°C) = 1110.1 g L-1.
(3) Purified by crystallization; m. p. = 6.8°C; n(20°C, D) = 1.4372, p(20°C) = 831.8 g L-1.
